Manchester United is looking to sign the highly-rated €50million PSV star
The Premier League giants are looking to plot a sensational swoop for PSV’s highly-rated striker Cody Gakpo.
According to SportsBible, United is looking to further strengthen its attacking department by roping in quality attackers who can make a difference on the pitch. With Anthony Martial’s continued injury struggles and with Cristiano Ronaldo struggling to find his form the Premier League giants will have to land a quality striker who can bag plenty of goals for the club as well as pose a threat to the opposition’s defense.
The 23-year-old has been in sensational form this season as he has bagged 12 goals and has racked up 14 assists in 22 appearances for the club in all competitions. Gakpo comes across as a versatile attacker who not only brings goals but also poses a threat to the opposition’s defense with his dynamic dribbling skills.
Erik Ten Hag had signed Lisandro Martinez and Anthony from the Dutch League over the summer and now he will be keen on signing Cody Gakpo as well.
However, Plotting a transfer for the Dutch international will not be easy as they will face stiff competition from Leeds United and Liverpool who are also interested in availing the services of the Dutch international, and PSV will try to prevent a transfer from taking place by increasing the transfer fee for the wanted striker which is currently close to €50 million.
Manchester United is keeping an eye on Blackburn Rovers forward Ben Brereton Diaz
Manchester United has sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old forward Ben Brereton Diaz play in the Championships. Last season the Chilean international was in fine form as he scored 22 goals in over 37 matches in the league and this season he has scored 9 goals in 20 appearances which has put Blackburn Rovers in a favorable position for promotion into the Premier League.
The Premier League giants are keeping a close watch on many attacking prospects in a bid to bolster their attack. The Chilean international fits United’s requirements and they will be looking to lure him away from the Championship club however according to Football League World West Ham United is leading the race to sign the forward.
As the 23-year-old’s contract runs out by June 2023 it will be interesting to see which club finalizes a transfer given the two-horse race between West Ham United and Manchester United.
England has a problem with Harry Maguire
Harry Maguire’s time in Manchester United this season hasn’t been a smooth sail as he has made only 8 appearances for the red so far in all competitions.
Lisandro Martinez’s arrival has pushed Maguire down the pecking order and with the establishment of a flourishing defensive partnership between Martinez and Varane questions and doubts have started to emerge about the English international’s role at the club.
Varane’s injury against Chelsea in late October would have been a turning point for Maguire this season as he would get to replace the French international in the starting eleven however Erik Ten Hag has preferred utilizing Lindelof over Maguire.
Former England international Glen Johnson thinks England could be in trouble if he starts in the World Cup given the lack of game time he has had for Manchester United this season.
“As a neutral, I think if a player can’t get into his club team, then how can he be good enough for England? That’s what I’d be thinking,”
“I know it’s United and they’ve got a good squad, but if Harry Maguire is classed as one of our best center-halves and he can’t get into his club team, then I think we’ve got a problem.”
It will be interesting to see how things unfold for Maguire as his situation could come to a point where he would demand more game time or look for a move away from Old Trafford.
